IMF Managing Director Georgieva visits Argentina to back President Milei's economic plan

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday, 27 July, at the invitation of President Javier Milei. Her three‑day visit includes meetings with senior government officials, business leaders and economists, and a trip to the Vaca Muerta shale‑oil region in Neuquén Province.

The mission is presented as a fresh political endorsement of the reform programme the Milei administration is pursuing under the IMF’s current extended fund facility. Georgieva is expected to reaffirm the Fund’s assessment that Argentina has made progress on macro‑stability, inflation slowdown and activity recovery, while stressing continued monitoring of fiscal balance, central‑bank independence, reserve building and structural reforms.

The visit also recalls Georgieva’s previous encounter with Milei at the United Nations in September and earlier talks with Economy Minister Luis Caputo. During the stay she will hold a press briefing at the Treasury Palace, address a mixed audience of public‑private sector representatives, and inspect the Loma Campana site operated by YPF, underscoring the IMF’s interest in Argentina’s energy sector and broader economic outlook.
