IMF mission arrives in Ghana for first Policy Coordination Instrument review
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, led by Dr Ruben Atoyan, has arrived in Accra for a two-week assessment of Ghana’s economy. This visit marks the first review under the country’s new Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), a 36-month non-financing framework designed to reinforce policy credibility and investor confidence following the conclusion of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility arrangement in July 2026.
The mission is expected to scrutinize the proposed 2027 Budget and its alignment with PCI commitments. Key areas of focus include Ghana’s fiscal performance through September 2026, specifically regarding revenue mobilization and government receipts.
Additionally, the IMF team will examine energy sector legacy debts, the Bank of Ghana’s recapitalization, banking-sector supervision, and broader financial sector regulation. While the PCI does not involve direct fund disbursements, the review serves as a mechanism for the government to demonstrate progress on economic reforms and maintain macroeconomic stability.
