IMF mission to visit Pakistan for fourth EFF review
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission is scheduled to visit Pakistan in September 2026 to conduct the fourth review of the country’s $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
A primary focus of the mission will be the government’s proposed legislation regarding the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). The Pakistan Sovereign Wealth Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has been introduced in the Senate to strengthen governance, clarify the fund’s legal status as a holding company, and implement enhanced fiscal safeguards. These legislative changes are intended to meet specific IMF conditions.
Additionally, the review will cover progress on state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Pakistani authorities have moved six amendments through parliament concerning SOE laws and aim to finalize legislation for the remaining three enterprises by the end of August 2026. The IMF will also discuss the implementation of the Governance and Anti-Corruption Diagnostics (GCD) Assessment Report.
