IMF releases $690 million tranche to support Ukraine's economy
The International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board approved an immediate disbursement of about $690 million to Ukraine, raising the total IMF payouts under the country’s program to roughly $2.2 billion. The tranche is part of a larger financing arrangement that, according to the Fund, will eventually provide up to $8.1 billion (or $15.6 billion under the Extended Fund Facility) to help Ukraine maintain macro‑economic stability while it continues to confront Russia’s invasion. The IMF said Ukraine met all quantitative performance criteria set for the end of March, though some structural reforms have been delayed and the target for net international reserves was missed, partly because of intensified attacks on critical infrastructure and broader Middle‑East tensions. Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva praised Ukraine’s “extraordinary resilience” and called for prudent fiscal and monetary policies to safeguard financial‑sector stability and progress toward EU accession.
