IMF Spring Meetings address global growth and regional integration
During the IMF and World Bank Group Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., the Bank of Thailand and Vietnamese officials engaged in discussions regarding global economic trends and regional integration.
The IMF projects global economic growth will slow to 3.1% in 2026 and 3.2% in 2027, with inflation expected to reach 4.4% and 3.7% in those respective years. These forecasts assume a gradual easing of Middle East tensions by mid-2026. The IMF noted that emerging markets may face significant challenges through higher commodity prices, inflationary pressures, and market volatility. To mitigate these effects, the IMF recommends targeted fiscal policies for vulnerable groups and flexible monetary policies.
In a separate context at the meetings, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung highlighted Vietnam’s role within ASEAN. The discussions emphasized how ASEAN facilitates economic connectivity, market expansion, and investment for its members. The expansion of the bloc, including the accession of Timor-Leste, was noted as a milestone for regional cohesion and development opportunities.
