IMF warns AI adoption could widen global inequality gap

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a warning regarding the socioeconomic consequences of rapid artificial intelligence advancement. The organization reports that AI is poised to redefine the global labor market, affecting approximately 40% of jobs worldwide.

According to the IMF, the benefits of AI are likely to be distributed unevenly. Advanced economies are better positioned to capture productivity gains due to superior digital infrastructure, specialized human capital, and high levels of innovation investment. In contrast, low- and middle-income nations face significant hurdles, including a lack of high-speed connectivity and data processing centers.

The report highlights risks such as the concentration of wealth within a few technologically dominant nations and a heterogeneous impact on employment. While AI may complement high-skilled roles in wealthy nations, a lack of adequate training in developing countries could further marginalize local workforces.
