IMF-World Bank Meetings: Thailand promotes local cuisine amid regional economic updates
During the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings 2026 held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Thailand promoted its local culinary soft power by serving traditional desserts to international media. The menu featured shaved ice topped with GI-registered (Geographical Indication) products, including poached Kluai Khai from Phitsanulok and coconut milk from Nakhon Si Thammarat, alongside Foi Thong and Luk Chup.
In a related economic briefing, the IMF released its October 2026 Regional Economic Outlook for Asia and the Pacific. The IMF raised its growth forecast for the region to 4.8% for the year, citing the AI boom as a primary driver despite energy crises and trade tensions. However, the report noted that growth is uneven, with Thailand's projected growth at 2.1%, the lowest among the five major ASEAN economies.
