Festival Iminente celebrates 10 years in abandoned Lisbon school

The Festival Iminente is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a multidisciplinary event held from September 17 to 20 in Lisbon. The festival, created by the artist Vhils, will occupy the Escola Industrial Afonso Domingues in Marvila, a building that has been abandoned for 16 years following the cancellation of a planned bridge project over the Tagus River.

The programming features over 140 artists across five stages, blending music, visual arts, dance, and cinema. Notable musical acts include American hip-hop producer DJ Premier and Portuguese rapper Original Kappa. For the first time, the festival will also include a dedicated cinema program and a series of discussions titled ‘O Que Pode Um Festival?’ focusing on nightlife, gentrification, and independent creation.

The event aims to transform the derelict industrial site into a multidisciplinary ecosystem. Organizers noted that the space previously housed several homeless individuals, most of whom were relocated by the Lisbon City Council prior to the festival's occupation.
