IMM România requests extension for CAEN code updates

IMM România, a national employers' confederation representing small and medium-sized enterprises, is requesting an extension for the deadline to update CAEN Rev. 3 codes. The current deadline is set for September 25, 2026.

According to the confederation, only approximately 34% of companies have completed the transition to the new coding system, leaving nearly two-thirds of entities registered with the Trade Register incomplete. IMM România warns that failure to extend the deadline could lead to significant operational risks.

Potential issues include the potential paralysis of the National Trade Register Office due to a massive surge in simultaneous requests, which could overload IT platforms and increase processing times. Furthermore, businesses may face difficulties obtaining or renewing necessary operating licenses and permits if their registered activity codes are not updated in time, potentially leading to a total halt in economic activities for many firms.
