Immersive light shows transform historic German churches
Immersive audiovisual art installations are transforming historic German churches into monumental light and sound experiences.
In Ingolstadt, the event agency Luminous is presenting ‘Excelsis’ at the Liebfrauenmünster. The project uses high-precision 3D laser scans of the Gothic interior to create custom projection mapping. Developed in collaboration with MP-Studio, the show utilizes over 20 projectors to turn the cathedral's columns and surfaces into a cohesive work of art. The installation is scheduled to run from October 23 to December 22.
Simultaneously, the Zurich-based artist collective PROJEKTIL is hosting ‘ENLIGHTENMENT’ at the St. Anna Church in Augsburg. This installation features 360-degree projections that interpret Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ through a combination of light and music. The event includes live organ performances by Johannes Eppelein, whose melodies are synchronized with the visual movements projected onto the church's historic walls.
