Immersive theatre explores AI ethics and historical archives
Various immersive theatrical productions are utilizing interactive formats to explore complex ethical and historical themes.
In Lille, the production ‘The Jury Experience: L’IA meurtrière’ is scheduled at Le 1894 from October 17, 2026, to January 10, 2027. The show places the audience in the role of a jury during a trial concerning a fatal accident involving an autonomous vehicle. Participants must decide whether responsibility lies with the programmer, the passenger, or the artificial intelligence itself.
Separately, the immersive piece ‘Jouer l’archive’ uses historical documents from the French National Archives to recreate a 1940 interministerial meeting regarding anti-Jewish legislation. Originally created by students from the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique, the play has been performed for various administrative bodies to examine the historical actions of civil servants during the Vichy regime.
