Imo State police investigate severe burns of 14-year-old girl

The State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Owerri has launched an investigation into an incident involving a 14-year-old girl from Akwa Ibom State who sustained severe burns while in the care of her aunt in Imo State.

The incident occurred in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area. The case gained public attention after journalist and human rights activist Chidiebube Okeoma shared a video on Facebook documenting the girl's injuries. In the footage, the victim appeared to have extensive burns on her neck and body.

The girl provided an account alleging that the injuries occurred during a domestic situation involving boiling water. Authorities are currently examining whether the burns resulted from an accidental mishap, gross negligence, or a deliberate act of violence. The investigation aims to determine the level of supervision provided by the aunt and other household members present at the time.
