Lombardy allocates €15 million to support farmers against fuel costs

The Lombardy regional government has approved a €15 million funding package to support agricultural businesses facing rising production costs. The allocation includes €10 million as extraordinary compensation for increased fuel prices and €5 million dedicated to rural development under the 2023-2027 programming period.

Regional Agriculture Councilor Alessandro Beduschi stated that the measure aims to bolster the competitiveness and profitability of agricultural enterprises while supporting food sovereignty. This funding complements existing regional resources, which include over €90 million already allocated for rural development, alongside various annual supports for forestry, livestock, and phytosanitary programs.

Local representatives, including Como regional councilor Anna Dotti, noted that these funds are vital for protecting small-scale farms and preventing the depopulation of rural and mountainous areas, where agriculture remains a key economic and identity-defining pillar.
