Imola police station incident involving self-immolation threat

A 26-year-old man caused tension at a police station in Imola after entering the premises while shouting in Arabic. The individual reportedly doused himself and the entrance with gasoline and threatened to set himself on fire.

Officers intervened and apprehended the man as he attempted to reach for a lighter in his jacket pocket. The individual, who is an undocumented resident with a prior expulsion order, was taken to an emergency room for medical evaluation before being turned over to police. He has been charged with the interruption of a public service.

Imola Mayor Marco Panieri expressed solidarity with the officers, praising their professionalism and promptness in preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome.
