Belgrade construction site collapse forces evacuations

A major construction incident occurred in Belgrade on Vojvode Vlahovića Street when a retaining wall collapsed at a construction site, creating a large pit that swallowed a car and part of a parking area. No injuries were reported, but nearby residents were evacuated from their buildings due to safety risks, and police closed the street to redirect traffic.

Local residents and community groups, such as ‘Moje naselje’, claim they had been warning authorities about soil instability and cracks for months. The investor for the residential and commercial complex is Soka Hill Investment, a company owned by Stevan Micić. The project, valued at approximately 5.1 million euros, involves the construction of a five-story building with 90 apartments.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has launched an investigation to determine if the investor followed proper procedures and if authorities ignored previous warnings. Construction inspectors have closed the site, allowing only emergency stabilization work to proceed.
