Romanian school clubs promote reading and sustainable activities

In Suceava, the Rotary‑sponsored reading club “Cititorii Cetății” brings together dozens of students from towns such as Siret, Rădăuţi, Câmpulung and Dolhasca. Participants travel by micro‑bus to the club’s meetings, where they discuss books with adult mentors, practice public speaking and develop personal skills. The club is supported by teachers Anca Gorban and Alina Butnariu and emphasizes dialogue, socialisation and personal growth.

In Bistrița, the Impact SmartAct club at Liviu Rebreanu High School organised a national sustainable picnic that attracted hundreds of pupils. Volunteers, backed by a €960 sponsorship from Lidl Romania, provided locally sourced, plastic‑free food and arranged team‑building games, including a geography‑themed parachute activity. The event highlighted environmental awareness and earned awards for the most sustainable classes.

Both initiatives illustrate how Romanian extracurricular clubs are fostering community engagement, cultural enrichment and sustainability among youth.
