Impaired drivers involved in separate German traffic accidents

Two separate incidents of impaired driving have been reported in Germany.

On the A71 motorway in southern Thuringia, a 46-year-old truck driver traveled approximately 30 kilometers in the wrong direction. Police report that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The vehicle collided with a barrier and a car waiting before the Eichelberg tunnel near Ritschenhausen. While no injuries were reported, the collision caused significant property damage. Authorities have arrested the man and are seeking witnesses.

In Bayreuth, a 73-year-old driver struck a traffic island on Königsallee, subsequently crashing into a traffic light and several road signs. Police measured a blood alcohol level of nearly 0.7 per mille. The accident resulted in approximately 15,000 euros in total damage, including 5,000 euros to traffic infrastructure and 10,000 euros to the vehicle. The driver's license has been seized by the prosecutor's office, and criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic have been initiated.
