Imperia: Urban depaving and tourism trends in Western Liguria

The Municipality of Imperia has initiated technical verifications using georadar technology across 12 urban zones. These preliminary studies aim to map underground utilities to prepare for future depaving projects. Depaving involves removing excess asphalt and impermeable surfaces to restore natural soil permeability, which helps improve rainwater drainage, reduce hydrogeological risks, and create new green spaces to enhance the urban microclimate.

The investigations will cover several locations, including via Garessio, via Berio, via T. Schiva, via Armelio, via Giordano, viale Matteotti, l’Argine Sinistro, via Acquarone, Parco Padre Peirona Castelvecchio, piazzale Santa Lucia, piazzale Cristino, and via Don Abbo. The municipality has contracted a specialized external firm to conduct these non-invasive electromagnetic scans for a total cost of 7,105.28 euros.

In separate regional news, tourism data for the Ponente Liguria area shows a stable summer season with nearly identical overall presence figures compared to the previous year. While the aggregate growth was only 0.05 percent, individual towns showed diverging trends. Bordighera saw a significant increase of 7.64 percent, driven largely by international visitors, while other areas like Ventimiglia experienced declines.
