Imperial Dental Group plans new surgeries in Welshpool and Newtown

Imperial Dental Group is seeking to expand its presence in Powys through two new planning applications submitted to Powys County Council.

In Welshpool, Dr Balbir Bhandal has proposed converting a Grade II-listed building on Broad Street into a three-storey practice. The facility would feature seven dental surgeries, staff facilities, and specialist decontamination rooms. If approved, the development is expected to create 10 full-time jobs. Local officials have noted the proposal could help address regional difficulties in accessing NHS dentistry.

In Newtown, the group has also applied to convert the first floor of Straight Lines House on New Road into a dental surgery. The site, which currently houses a Domino’s Pizza on the ground floor, would include a two-storey rear extension, a lift, and a new stairway to ensure accessibility. The Newtown practice aims to provide six dental surgeons and additional staff to support the increasing demand for high-quality NHS dentistry in the area.
