Impersonator of Indian Army officer arrested in West Bengal
Tarun Das, a resident of Sagardighi, was arrested in Murshidabad, West Bengal, for allegedly impersonating a Lieutenant Colonel from the Indian Army’s Para Special Forces and Military Intelligence wing. The arrest was the result of a coordinated night operation by the Kolkata Army Intelligence unit and Nabagram police following several days of surveillance.
Das reportedly used a full military uniform, forged identity cards, and a vehicle adorned with ‘Government of India’ stickers to gain the trust of victims. He allegedly promised defense sector employment in exchange for large sums of money. During the arrest, authorities recovered several walkie-talkies, mobile phones, forged documents, cash, and the suspect's vehicle.
Das was produced before the Lalbagh Sub-Divisional Court on Monday, where investigators requested 10 days of custody. The ongoing probe aims to determine the total number of victims, the scale of the financial fraud, and whether any accomplices were involved in the racket.
