Two men posing as electricians arrived at a residence on Schwemeckerweg in Soest after the homeowners arranged a repair online. Claiming to fix a faulty lamp, they performed additional work, issued a €90 invoice, and used a portable card reader to capture the victims' PIN. Shortly after, the couple discovered their debit cards and cash missing, and later found unauthorized bank transfers amounting to several thousand euros.
The North Rhine‑Westphalia police have opened a criminal investigation and are appealing for witnesses who saw the suspects or can provide identifying details. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet determined whether the perpetrators used a vehicle.
