Imran Khan seeks legal stay against India departure order
Bollywood actor Imran Khan has filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court seeking an urgent stay on a ‘Leave India’ notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The order directs him to depart the country by October 28 following his alleged participation in protests at August Kranti Maidan, which called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The petition argues that the FRRO failed to specify the exact immigration violations and did not consider Khan’s lifelong residency rights as an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder. It further claims he was given only 14 days to leave without a prior inquiry or opportunity to present his side. The legal dispute follows allegations that Khan violated the Foreigners Act by participating in political demonstrations.
Amid the legal proceedings, actor Aamir Khan reportedly met with politician Raj Thackeray at his Mumbai residence. While the meeting occurred during the dispute involving his nephew, Imran Khan, no official connection between the visit and the legal battle has been disclosed.
