Imran Khan's family raises alarms over prisoner health and safety
Sulaiman Khan, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has stated that the family and legal team have not had contact with the imprisoned politician since August. The 74-year-old is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi following convictions for corruption and bribery, charges which Khan denies as politically motivated.
Family members have expressed grave concerns regarding Khan's deteriorating health and treatment in solitary confinement. Reports indicate he has lost 85 percent of the vision in his right eye due to a blood clot and suffers from high blood pressure. Lawyers have characterized his prison conditions as ‘amounting to torture.’
Sulaiman Khan specifically accused Pakistan's army chief, General Asim Munir, of ignoring a Supreme Court order that directed Khan be granted medical assessments at Shifa International Hospital and regular access to family and lawyers. The family has drawn comparisons to the death of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, fearing that neglect or mistreatment in custody could lead to a similar fatal outcome.
