Imran Khan’s sons warn of health risks and dictatorship in Pakistan

The sons of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have raised urgent concerns regarding his health and the political state of Pakistan. During a virtual press conference, Sulaiman Isa Khan and Kasim Khan accused the military-led establishment of pushing the country toward a dictatorship and engaging in the “torture and the arbitrary detention” of their father.

Kasim Khan expressed grave concern for his father’s survival, stating, “At this point it’s looking more likely than not that he won’t be able to survive his stay in prison.” The family alleges that despite a Supreme Court order to have the 73-year-old examined at a private hospital, authorities instead took him to a state-run facility for a brief check-up before returning him to solitary confinement at Adiala Jail.

The Khan family also reported being denied visas to visit Pakistan and noted that they have been unable to speak with their father since March. While authorities have declared him medically fit, his sister, Uzma Khan, stated that the former Prime Minister has repeatedly claimed he is being tortured while in custody.
