Imran Sarwar appointed President and CEO of National Bank of Pakistan

Imran Sarwar has been appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for a three-year term, effective immediately. The appointment was formally confirmed by the Finance Division on September 3, 2026, following a decision by the federal cabinet.

Sarwar succeeds former President and CEO Rehmat Ali Hasnie. He brings over 27 years of experience in risk management, corporate banking, and financial leadership to the role. Prior to this appointment, he served as Group Executive for Risk and Credit Policy and Chief Risk Officer at United Bank Limited (UBL).

His professional background includes senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank, including serving as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Banking for the UAE. He has also held board-level positions at Khushhali Microfinance Bank and the Pakistan Mortgage Refinance Company. Sarwar’s career has spanned international markets, including Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Australia. He holds a business and accounting degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and an LLB from the University of Punjab.
