Imserso tourism program faces economic sustainability concerns

The Imserso tourism program, designed to support employment and tourism during low seasons, is facing criticism regarding its economic viability for service providers and accessibility for island residents.

In the Valencian Community, the hospitality association Hosbec warns that the program could jeopardize approximately 15,000 jobs and result in an economic impact exceeding 150 million euros. Industry representatives state that the program pays between 26 and 30 euros per person per day, while actual production costs have risen above 35 euros, threatening the sustainability of establishments.

Similarly, in Ibiza and Formentera, there are concerns that current economic conditions make it difficult for hotels to participate without operating at a loss. Additionally, retirees living on the islands face higher costs to access the program, as the provided subsidies are insufficient to cover the additional travel expenses required to reach mainland connections.
