IMSS admits to delivering two newborns to wrong families in Mexicali
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has admitted to mistakenly delivering two newborn girls to the wrong families at the Hospital de Gineco Pediatría No. 31 in Mexicali, Baja California.
The error was discovered approximately one month after the births, following inconsistencies in birth records and identification bracelets. DNA testing has since confirmed the identities of the infants. The affected families lived with the children for several weeks before the mistake was brought to light.
IMSS has issued a formal apology and is providing medical, psychological, and legal support to the families involved. Central officials have traveled to Mexicali to manage the situation, and the institution is coordinating with the State DIF's Office for the Protection of Children and Adolescents to ensure the well-being of the minors. The institute has also committed to reviewing its identification and delivery procedures to prevent future occurrences.
