IMSS ambulance driver arrested after drunk driving accident in Mexico City

An ambulance driver from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol, striking a pedestrian and crashing into approximately six parked vehicles in the Azcapotzalco borough of Mexico City. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 24, in the Nueva Santa María neighborhood.

The driver, identified as Alberto Sánchez, reportedly attempted to flee the scene in the ambulance, which was operating with its siren on but carrying no patients. Following a pursuit by a motorcyclist, police apprehended the driver. The pedestrian involved sustained a probable fracture to the right femur and received medical treatment from the Red Cross.

In response to the incident, IMSS announced the immediate dismissal of the employee and stated it will cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation. The institute also committed to following up on the victim's medical care and addressing material damages and compensation.
