IMSS and ISSSTE pension benefits and requirements for 2026
Pensioners under the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) are subject to specific regulations regarding the 2026 aguinaldo (annual bonus) and pension payments.
Under IMSS, only those receiving pensions for Old-Age or Unemployment under the Law of the Social Security in effect until June 30, 1997 (known as Ley 73) are entitled to the aguinaldo. This benefit is equivalent to one monthly pension amount and is scheduled for payment in November. Those under the 1997 regime are not eligible for this specific bonus.
Additionally, some IMSS beneficiaries may be required to complete a survival verification process to avoid the temporary suspension of their November payments and aguinaldo. Pensioners can check their status by reviewing their latest payment receipt: the instruction “acude a ventanilla para obtener el beneficio” indicates a required in-person visit, while “el IMSS elimina la comprobación de supervivencia” indicates no action is needed.
