IMSS and Ministry of Health handled 50% of Mexico's fetal deaths in 2025
Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) indicates that the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Ministry of Health handled 50.2 percent of recorded fetal deaths in Mexico during 2025.
According to the statistics, 17 percent of women involved in these cases received no prenatal care, while 63.9 percent had between one and five consultations. Maternal factors and pregnancy or childbirth complications accounted for 45.6 percent of the identified causes of fetal death.
In San Luis Potosí, 625 fetal deaths were recorded in 2025, representing a rate of 81.3 deaths per 100,000 women of childbearing age, the highest rate among Mexican states.
