IMSS approves land for new 120-bed hospital in Chetumal
The Technical Council of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has approved the donation of a 40,000-square-meter plot in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, for the construction of a new General Zone Hospital.
The project involves an estimated investment of approximately 2,967 million pesos. The new facility will feature 120 beds, more than doubling the capacity of the current Hospital General de Zona con Medicina Familiar No. 1, which has 57 beds. Once completed, the hospital is expected to serve approximately 111,000 beneficiaries by providing second-level medical care.
The land donation was facilitated through management by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, a process that began in 2022. During the construction period, the existing hospital will remain operational to ensure uninterrupted medical services for the population.
