IMSS-Bienestar responds to allegations of medical neglect in Mérida

IMSS-Bienestar has issued a statement regarding the death of a 51-year-old patient at the O’Horán Hospital in Mérida, following social media allegations of medical neglect. The patient’s family claimed he died after waiting several days in the emergency area for specialized care related to a strangulated hernia.

According to the institution, the patient was admitted on July 23 with intense abdominal pain and an umbilical hernia. Officials stated that due to the patient’s history of advanced renal disease and peritoneal dialysis, he received care from emergency, general surgery, and nephrology services. The agency reported that the patient suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on July 26 due to complications from his renal disease, and despite resuscitation efforts, he passed away.
