Mexico health and safety: IMSS upgrades and national drills

Various Mexican institutions are conducting health and safety initiatives. The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has completed a 34 million peso modernization of intensive care units at the Siglo XXI Hospital, adding 20 beds. Additionally, IMSS coordinated an aerial transfer of a patient from Chiapas to Mexico City for specialized treatment.

In Tamaulipas, the Judiciary participated in the 2026 National Civil Protection Drill, successfully evacuating 947 people from the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Victoria within approximately three minutes. Meanwhile, the state health department is training personnel to improve the early detection of childhood cancer.

Other regional efforts include IMSS Guanajuato reinforcing prevention protocols and IMSS Puebla focusing on patient safety regarding non-communicable diseases. National authorities continue to promote earthquake preparedness ahead of the September 19 commemorations.
