IMSS Durango files criminal complaint after nurse assaulted
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has filed a criminal complaint with the Durango State Attorney General's Office following a physical and verbal assault on a nurse at the Hospital de Zona Número 1.
The incident occurred in the emergency area when a 37-year-old man, identified as José “N”, entered the facility in a state of anger. The assailant reportedly targeted the nurse, identified as Jessica “H”, accusing her of making phone calls regarding the health status of an 84-year-old relative who was hospitalized at the unit. Despite the nurse's explanations that she was not responsible for the calls, the man allegedly struck her in the back and head.
State police arrived at the hospital following a 911 emergency call and detained the suspect near the emergency department. IMSS officials stated they are providing the victim with medical attention, psychological support, and legal counsel. The institute is also reviewing security protocols and the performance of surveillance personnel at the facility to prevent future incidents.
