IMSS Hospital in Navojoa faces drainage failure

The new IMSS General Zone Hospital No. 16 in Navojoa, Sonora, recently experienced a drainage system failure that caused sewage to overflow into an area on the second floor. The incident occurred following heavy rains and was attributed to an obstruction in the connection between the hospital's drainage system and the municipal network.

Citizens initially reported that the overflow created unsanitary conditions and raised concerns regarding the facility's infrastructure, especially since the hospital—representing an investment of over 1.2 billion pesos—has not yet been officially inaugurated. There were also separate reports questioning the functionality of smoke detectors within the building.

The IMSS has stated that conservation personnel intervened immediately to clean and clear the pipes, and that the system is now functioning normally. The institution reported that services remain regular and no patients or staff were harmed. Coordination is ongoing between the Navojoa City Council and the construction company to prevent future blockages. Additionally, local authorities noted that rehabilitation work on the Tierra Blanca collector, which serves the hospital's area, is currently 75 percent complete.
