IMSS hospital in Tepeji del Río faces cockroach infestation and supply shortages
Medical staff at the IMSS Hospital General de Zona and Clínica Familiar number 6 in Tepeji del Río, Hidalgo, have reported a cockroach infestation within the facility. An internist, Miguel Acuña, specifically highlighted a wooden cabinet used for storing patient files as a primary site for the infestation, describing it as a “fiesta de cucarachas” (cockroach party).
During a supervisory visit by Jorge Luis Zendejas, head of the IMSS State Administrative Decentralized Operating Body in Hidalgo, workers presented a wide range of systemic deficiencies. Beyond the sanitary concerns, staff reported critical shortages of beds, stretchers, uniforms, and laundry services.
Additional grievances include a lack of essential medical supplies, such as nasal cannulas for respiratory patients, and a shortage of specialized personnel like inhalation therapists to monitor patients on ventilators. The medical staff emphasized that the facility frequently receives critical patients, including those with renal and cardiac conditions, despite lacking an intensive care unit.
