IMSS marks 70 years of healthcare service in Chiapas

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) is marking 70 years of service in the state of Chiapas. The institution began its operations in 1956 in the Soconusco region, specifically in Cacahoatán, to meet the medical needs of agricultural and commercial workers.

Since its inception, the institution has expanded from a small infrastructure to a comprehensive network. In Tapachula, the first hospital opened with only 12 beds and four specialties. Today, the IMSS in Chiapas operates 626 first-level medical units, including rural and mobile units, 31 Family Medicine Units, and 15 second-level units, including two Regional General Hospitals of High Specialty.

To commemorate this milestone, a photographic exhibition was inaugurated at the “La Asegurada” Social Security Center in Tapachula. The exhibit documents seven decades of institutional memory, showcasing the evolution of the institute's services and its impact on the health and social welfare of Chiapas families.
