IMSS to open new childcare centers in Michoacán, Jalisco and Estado de México

The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) will complete three new Centros de Educación y Cuidado Infantil (CECI) in the Michoacán municipalities of Uruapan, Jiquilpan and Tarímbaro, serving more than 550 children under four years old. The projects, announced by Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, are slated for completion by November 2026 with a joint investment of roughly 215 million pesos from state and federal budgets.

In Morelia, the municipal government reaffirmed its support for IMSS initiatives, including the planned Hospital General Regional and an additional CECI on the former Cereso site. Coordination meetings highlighted the collaborative effort among federal, state and local authorities.

Separately, the IMSS Technical Council approved the donation of two municipal lands to build CECI facilities in Ocotlán, Jalisco (capacity 110 children) and Ecatepec, Estado de México (capacity 250 children). These sites aim to address documented demand for early‑childhood care in densely populated regions, expanding the institute’s network of high‑quality childcare centers across Mexico.
