IMSS Yucatán issues alert over respiratory infections
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Yucatán has issued an alert regarding the rise of acute respiratory infections due to fluctuating temperatures. Medical officials, including Dr. Claudia del Río Araiza, have emphasized the importance of strengthening preventive habits to combat illnesses such as the common cold, influenza, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, and pneumonia.
To support the immune system, the institute recommends a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, including fruits like oranges and kiwi, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts. Key hygiene measures suggested include frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes with the inner elbow, cleaning frequently used surfaces, and maintaining ventilated spaces.
IMSS highlighted that children under five, older adults, and individuals with chronic diseases are at a higher risk of complications. The institution advises keeping vaccination schedules updated, engaging in physical activity, and seeking timely medical attention if respiratory symptoms become intense or persistent.
