Imtiaz Ali advocates for creative independence amid AI growth
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has addressed the growing influence of artificial intelligence in the creative industry, stating that while technological advancement is inevitable, creators must maintain independence. Speaking to IANS, Ali emphasized that AI should be utilized as a tool to enhance or bring creative ideas to life rather than allowing it to control the creative process. “You cannot be a slave to AI,” he remarked.
The discussion comes amid rising concerns regarding the misuse of AI in filmmaking, particularly in writing, visual effects, and post-production. The industry has seen a surge in deepfake controversies, including sexually explicit videos targeting actors such as Janhvi Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Mrunal Thakur, and Shalini Pandey.
In response to these incidents, several prominent actors, including Jr NTR, Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda, and Khushbu Sundar, have called for stricter government regulations and legal action to combat the creation of misleading and non-consensual content.
