Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ set for worldwide release on June 12, 2026

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali says love stories must arise from genuine feeling, not be “made like in a factory”. He explains that his upcoming drama “Main Vaapas Aaunga”, which deals with partition and star‑crossed lovers, uses a train as a visual motif to symbolize a character’s longing to return to a lost land.

The film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari Wagh and Vedang Raina, with a special appearance by Danish Pandor, known from “Dhurandhar”. Music is composed by A.R. Rahman, lyrics by Irshad Kamil, and the project is produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films. It is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on 12 June 2026.
