In-Edit Brasil festival showcases music documentaries in São Paulo

The 18th edition of In-Edit Brasil runs from June 17 to 28 in São Paulo, offering free screenings of more than 100 music documentaries covering national and international artists. Notable premieres include a film on Jocy de Oliveira, a pioneer of Brazilian electronic music, a documentary about Alaíde Costa that highlights the racism she faced, a title on the historic Canecão venue, a Lírio Ferreira film exploring Pernambuco psychedelia through Alceu Valença’s album “Vivo!”, and a portrait of musician Mateus Aleluia’s journey through Candomblé sites in Cachoeira, Bahia. Director Marcelo Aliche emphasized the festival’s breadth, featuring styles from rock to Ari Barroso, and its accessibility measures such as sign‑language interpretation, descriptive subtitles and audio description. Parallel activities comprise a vinyl fair at the Cinemateca and live performances by Alaíde Costa, Fernanda Abreu, Odair José, Inocentes and DZK. The program is also available online via Itaú Cultural Play, Sesc em Casa and SP Cine Play.

In João Pessoa, the municipal Cinema Passeio – the city’s first public cinema in the Torre neighborhood – is screening the short musical animation “Era uma noite de São João” by Bruna Velden on June 19, 20 and 21 at 4 p.m. The 11‑minute, free film, funded by the Fundação Cultural de João Pessoa, celebrates Northeastern Junino traditions and follows an elderly widow recalling her life through festa junina memories. The screenings aim to promote local audiovisual production and widen audience access in Paraíba.
