Ina Garten discusses decision to live child-free

Celebrity chef and cookbook author Ina Garten has addressed her decision to live a child-free life with her husband, Jeffrey Garten. In a recent interview with The New York Times, the 78-year-old explained that having children would have made their lifestyle and career paths significantly more difficult.

Garten noted that their marriage, which began in 1968, involved navigating different professional pursuits, including a period when Jeffrey lived in Japan to start a business while Ina remained in East Hampton. She expressed that the flexibility of not having children allowed her to dedicate long hours to running her gourmet food store, The Barefoot Contessa, and managing her catering business.

Reflecting on her choice, Garten stated, “I’ve never looked back on the decision and thought, ‘I should have done it differently.’” She added that while she respects her friends who enjoy parenthood, being a mother was not something she desired, concluding, “I’m really happy that I didn’t.”
