INACIF staff demand security after facility damage in Santiago

Staff at the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago are demanding increased security following an incident involving the family of Christopher Almonte Díaz, known as ‘El Niño’.

During a protest on Sunday regarding the release of Almonte Díaz’s body, relatives reportedly caused damage to the forensic center’s front entrance. Reports indicate that a glass door was broken by force and other windows were damaged by thrown stones.

An INACIF employee, Ángelo Martínez, stated that workers were exposed to violence that is unrelated to their professional duties of processing deceased individuals. Martínez requested that the National Police increase surveillance around the institute, particularly when transporting bodies linked to criminal investigations, to ensure the safety of the staff.
