Inapa begins Baitoa-Taveras aqueduct expansion in Dominican Republic

The National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (Inapa) has officially commenced the expansion of the Baitoa-Taveras multiple aqueduct, a project intended to serve over 35,000 residents in the Santiago and La Vega provinces. The project involves an investment of approximately 995 million Dominican pesos and includes the construction of a water treatment plant, pumping stations, and over 143 kilometers of piping.

The groundbreaking ceremony was marked by tension when local priest José Olivo interrupted the protocol to criticize Inapa Director Wellington Arnaud. Olivo expressed frustration, stating he had already blessed the start of this same project twice before, highlighting the community's long-standing struggle for a reliable water supply.

Arnaud defended the work, acknowledging public skepticism but asserting that the project is a definitive solution for the Baitoa municipality and Tavera district. He noted that the initiative aligns with President Luis Abinader's commitment to strengthening national water infrastructure.
