INAPA to invest nearly RD$4 billion in San Francisco de Macorís water‑supply expansion
The Dominican Republic's Instituto Nacional de Aguas Potables y Alcantarillados (INAPA) announced a investment of roughly RD$3.7‑4 billion to expand the aqueduct serving San Francisco de Macorís in Duarte province. Executive director Wellington Arnaud said the project will benefit more than 285,200 residents and is part of President Luis Abinader's commitment to strengthen water‑potable infrastructure nationwide.
Key components include a new rapid‑filtration plant (600 L/s) in Cenoví, rehabilitation of an existing 1,000 L/s plant in Mata Larga, 11.6 km of 24‑inch pipe, two one‑million‑gallon surface reservoirs, an additional 792,000‑gallon reservoir for the north zone, two elevated metal tanks (600,000 gal and 150,000 gal), over 120 km of conduits, 290 km of distribution lines, and 18,000 new urban connections. A booster pump station will be installed in Cenoví and another station capable of 585 m³ per hour will be built. The ceremony was attended by Governor Ana Xiomara Cortés, Senator Franklin Romero and local mayors. “We are working on this project and will coordinate to give the municipality a more efficient and quality water service,” Arnaud said.
