Inaugural Delhi Marathi Film Festival Showcases Classics and New Works

The first Delhi Marathi Film Festival will be held in the national capital from August 7 to 9. Organized by the Delhi Marathi Pratishthan with support from the Maharashtra government, the Film and Television Institute of India and the National Film Development Corporation, the three‑day event aims to celebrate both the legacy and contemporary landscape of Marathi cinema.

Key screenings include the acclaimed drama “Sthal”, directed by Jayant Digambar Somalkar, which has travelled to several international festivals, and the landmark 1975 political drama “Samna” by Jabbar Patel, written by Vijay Tendulkar and starring Shriram Lagoo and Nilu Phule. The programme also features a slate of other Marathi films and telefilms, a masterclass by FTII for aspiring filmmakers, and an exhibition tracing the evolution of Marathi cinema.

The inaugural ceremony will be attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, Rajya Sabha MP Vinod Tawde and Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, alongside noted filmmakers and actors from the Marathi industry.
