Inbionatec celebrates 10 years of bionanotechnology research

The Institute of Bionanotechnology of the NOA (Inbionatec), a joint entity of the Universidad Nacional de Santiago del Estero (UNSE) and CONICET, celebrated its 10th anniversary. The institution has established itself as a key player in scientific research, technological transfer, and community engagement in the Santiago del Estero region.

Research lines include the creation of biodegradable nanoparticles from native tree extracts, such as quebracho colorado, to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The institute also focuses on detecting environmental contaminants like arsenic and glyphosate, and providing quality control services for the mining, medicinal cannabis, and apiculture industries.

Director Claudio Borsarelli described the establishment of the institute as "a quantum leap" for the province, though he noted that the current economic context and budget cuts have created a critical and stressful period for science and higher education. The anniversary event included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and awards for regional science students.
