Incan cancer patients warn of life-threatening medical shortage

Cancer patients at the Incan institute are warning of a critical healthcare crisis due to shortages of both medication and medical professionals. Johnny González, a member of the Association of Cancer Patients and Families (Apacfa), has called on President Santiago Peña, the Minister of Health, and the Minister of Economy to take immediate action to prevent patient deaths.

Apacfa expressed deep concern over the resignation of health professionals, including oncologists, stating that the public health system is reaching a breaking point. The association emphasized that the loss of doctors who manage ongoing treatments creates extreme uncertainty for families. Patients have indicated they may resort to hunger strikes or chaining themselves to protest the situation, arguing that infrastructure improvements are insufficient if there are no professionals to staff them.
