Incarcerated individuals in Uruguay perform school renovations

In Uruguay, incarcerated individuals are participating in school maintenance and renovation projects as part of a rehabilitative initiative. Under the ‘Pelota al Medio a la Esperanza’ program, the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR) and the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) are coordinating work to improve educational facilities.

The program recently implemented projects at School 155 in Colonia Nicolich, Canelones, where inmates from Unit No. 7 performed improvements to the schoolyard during the spring break to avoid disrupting classes. Participants noted that the work provides an opportunity to contribute positively to society and gain construction skills through professional training.
